Okzharp & Manthe Ribane


OKZHARP & MANTHE RIBANE first came together in December 2012 when Manthe was cast in the lead role in the Chris Saunders and Okzharp film, ‘Ghost Diamond’. Since then they have created music and films together and have toured their live performances in Europe and South Africa.

OKZHARP is a musician/producer based in South London, UK but originally from Cape Town, South Africa. As 1-third of LV, Okzharp released 2 full-length albums. ‘Routes’ was released in 2011 on Keysound, their second collaboration with writer/vocalist Joshua Idehen after the ’38 EP’ in 2010. Then in 2012 ‘Sebenza’ was released on Hyperdub in collaboration with South African vocalists OkmalumKoolkat, Spoek Mathambo and Ruffest. It’s pronounced ‘Ok Sharp’.

MANTHE RIBANE is a Soweto-born, Joburg-based performance wunderkind whose work reaches out across the creative spectrum, into film, music, dance, fashion and performance art. Manthe has been a player in some of South Africa’s key contemporary movements, from the fashion/art squadron, The Smarteez back in 2006, to the dance/performance-art group V.I.N.T.A.G.E who won Best Dance Crew at the South African HipHop Awards 2014. She toured the arenas of the world as a dancer in the Die Antwoord live show. Her new multimedia project, Dear Ribane, is a collaboration with her siblings Tegebo and KayKay and in the past year she has travelled to London, Paris and Geneva to engage in design and performance projects with a range of high profile international brands. She was awarded a ‘Young Inspiration’ award for her work by Red Bull South Africa and she recently graced the front cover of the Elle South Africa ‘Future’ issue.

Okzharp and Manthe Ribane released their first musical collaborations ‘DUMELA 113 EP’ via Hyperdub on the 27th October 2015. This was accompanied by short films for the songs ‘Dear Ribane’ and ‘Sizzr’, both by Chris Saunders.

In November 2015 they featured at the Norient Music Festival, Austria and performed their first live show for Hyperdub in London, UK.

On the 28th October 2016 they released their second EP ‘TELL YOUR VISION EP’ via Hyperdub, UK. This was accompanied by short films for the songs ‘Teleported’ and ‘Piki Piki’ by Chris Saunders.

Since then they have performed in Johannesburg, London, Cape Town, Durban, Vienna, Paris, Milan, Geneva, St Gallen, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Krakow. They have featured at Norient Festival, 100% Festival, Red Bull Weekender, Unsound Festival and Afropunk Johannesburg. They have recorded radio sessions for Julie Adenuga Apple Radio, NTS, Radar Radio, Tsugi (Fr), Rinse UK and France. They have filmed live performances for NTS, Boiler Room Presents and Radar Radio.
